The trooper was standing outside of his squad car around 10:20 a.m. on northbound I-57 near 108th Street when he was hit by a passing car. Decatur, IL (November 2, 2024) – The Decatur Police Department is investigating following a crash that happened on Saturday, November 2, around 2:50 p.m. Sgt. Brandon Rolfs confirmed that the accident involved a white 2016 Chevy Equinox and a grey 2009 Mazda 6 on Interstate 72 at Route 121 in Decatur.
Rolfe said the driver of the Chevy Equinox, a 75-year-old man, was traveling southeast on Route 121 and entered the left turn lane to turn onto the I-72 on-ramp. Police say the driver turned in front of oncoming traffic and hit the Mazda 6, driven by an 18-year-old man.
