Accident News | Chicago, Illinois

A driver was injured Monday afternoon after a semi-truck struck an overpass on the Bishop Ford Expressway on Chicago’s South Side, causing its trailer to break loose and collide with a garbage truck, according to Illinois State Police.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the outbound lanes near 127th Street. ISP said the semi hit the Norfolk Southern Bridge, dislodging its intermodal trailer. The detached trailer then struck a garbage truck traveling in the center lane. Both vehicles came to rest against the left concrete median barrier.

One driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries, while the other driver declined medical treatment at the scene. Traffic was reduced to a single lane as emergency crews responded, causing significant delays along the expressway. All lanes were reopened by approximately 6:35 p.m. Further details about the cause of the crash were not immediately released.
