Lorene Wilson, a 69-year-old Chicagoan, was killed in the crash. Metra service on the Union Pacific Northwest line was experiencing delays earlier Saturday, but service has since returned to normal. However, no further details were released, and an investigation is ongoing.

Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago
Despite Chicago being one of the few truly walkable metropolises in our country, pedestrians continue to encounter danger on its thoroughfares. Based on preliminary data, local authorities estimate that the number of pedestrian fatalities in traffic collisions over the past year may have peaked at its highest level in half a century.
A total of nearly 200 pedestrians died in recent vehicle collisions, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year. Notably, 40% of fatal pedestrian collisions were caused by hit-and-runs. In comparison, 80% of severe and fatal pedestrian incidents took place in Chicago alone, near an intersection of 125 feet or less. However, these incidents can happen on city streets, on train routes, on rural roads, and beyond. Pedestrians are tragically vulnerable. Of course, victims must obtain immediate legal counsel from a Chicago pedestrian accident attorney if they or a family member has been injured in a collision.
