Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago
Even though Chicago is one of the few completely walkable metropolitan areas in the United States, pedestrians continue to face risk on the city’s thoroughfares. Unfortunately, traffic analysts say that the number of pedestrians who have been killed in traffic incidents over the past year has reached its greatest level in the preceding half-century. And according to preliminary data that local authorities have collected, the rate of these incidents is only increasing.
Unfortunately, nearly 200 pedestrians died in recent vehicle collisions, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year. And notably, 40% of fatal pedestrian collisions were caused by hit-and-runs. In comparison, 80% of severe and fatal pedestrian incidents transpired in Chicago alone, near an intersection of 125 feet or less. Of course, victims must obtain immediate legal counsel from a Chicago pedestrian accident attorney if they or a family member has been injured in a collision.
