Summit, IL (July 28, 2024) – A south suburban crash caused delays on the Stevenson Expressway on Sunday morning, July 28, per local authorities. According to officers with the Summit Police Department, a semi jackknifed following a collision on the outbound lanes north of 1st Avenue on I-55 around 7:30 a.m.

Per additional information from troopers with the Illinois State Police, as of 9:00 a.m., all lanes were blocked, and traffic was backed up to Central Avenue in Summit. All traffic was being diverted off onto Harlem Avenue. It’s unclear how many other vehicles were involved in the crash, and emergency responders were also dispatched to transport at least two people to the hospital.
