It has been six years since former professional football player, Aaron Hernandez, died while serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez’s career came to an abrupt end when he was arrested and convicted, leaving his former fiancé, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, to raise their daughter, Avielle. Jenkins-Hernandez has now come under fire for her handling of the finances as Avielle’s conservator.
Attorney Robert O’Regan raised red flags around the spending habits of Jenkins-Hernandez and questioned if all the money goes toward Avielle. In court documents, it is reported that several thousands were spent clothing, home goods, and “unexplained” expenses. Additionally, payments have been made to Bay Path University, despite Avielle not being of college age. O’Regan notes that there is no clear identification of how this money has benefited Avielle.
A representative for Jenkins-Hernandez claims that these allegations are unfounded and that she continues to be a devoted mother and is responding through the legal process. Jenkins-Hernandez has requested a new trustee be appointed to oversee the funds, while O’Regan has asked that Jenkins-Hernandez be removed as Avielle’s conservator along with a full accounting review of spending in the past calendar year.
