Chief Justice Anne M. Burke of the Illinois Supreme Court will preside over a ceremony to administer the attorney’s oath to 336 new attorneys on Thursday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. via live video broadcast. This bar admission ceremony is for all certified candidates who have passed the February 2020 bar exam.

Ceremonies would typically be held in each of the five judicial districts in Illinois, but this ceremony is being conducted remotely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony will be recorded and will be posted on the Court’s website no later May 8.

“This virtual ceremony is a first for the Illinois Supreme Court,” Chief Justice Burke said. “This group of admittees has persevered through trying times and we welcome that resilience to the practice of law in Illinois.”

All of the candidates set to be sworn in have passed the Illinois State Bar Examination and a required ethics examination and were certified by the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness. They will bring the total number of licensed attorneys in Illinois to approximately 96,500.

The number of admittees for each district is as follows:

  • First District: 259
  • Second District: 27
  • Third District: 18
  • Fourth District: 6
  • Fifth District: 26
