Today’s updates discusses another lawsuit filed against Governor Pritzker for his stay-at-home order and granting permission for dentists to perform routine dental care. Additionally, more testing sites will open in Chicago.
EMERGENCY POWERS
- Governor Pritzker faces another lawsuit against the present stay-at-home order. A salon owner in Clay County filed suit on Friday, alleging that Governor Pritzker “does not have the constitutional authority to close her business.” Previously, a Clay County judge ruled in favor of lawmaker Darren Bailey in his lawsuit against Governor Pritzker. HEALTH
- Beginning today, dentists are allowed to resume “routine oral and dental care” under the guidelines released by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Previously, dental practices were allowed to provide only emergency and urgent services. The opening of these services, however, will need to follow social distancing, capacity restrictions, and other guidelines issued by the IDPH. RESOURCES
- The City of Chicago is set to open six more testing sites, thanks to help from Community Organized Relief Effort (“CORE”), a charity founded by actor Sean Penn. The testing sites will be aimed at addressing communities believed to be underserved, which should help achieve the Mayor’s goal of performing 4,500 tests a day before the city will consider easing stay-at-home restrictions.
