Last week I had the opportunity to speak at Rocket Aid, the virtual legal conference hosted by Rocket Matter. I spoke with Larry Port on one of my favorite topics: Going Paperless.

If you did not attend, you missed a great conference. The best part is that the conference had almost 500 attendees and raised more than $22,000 for COVID-19 related charities.

I had a great time, both during my session and during the sessions that I attended. The sessions I attended were informative. Plus, I really enjoyed the virtual conference format. It’s certainly not the same as attending a

Last week I wrote about the importance of being location independent. In this post, I identify the tools and technologies that I use to ensure that my practice is location independent.

The ability to work from home is especially important now for those of us under a shelter in place order. I am in Illinois. On March 20, ourGovernor issued Executive Order No. 8 ordering everyone to leave their home “only for Essential Activities, Essential  Governmental Functions, or to operate Essential Businesses and Operations ¼ .” The order specifically exempts “Professional services, such as legal services, accounting services, insurance services,

It is no secret that I am a big fan of being paperless. I strongly believe that it is the most important thing that attorneys can do to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their practices.

One of the real benefits of being paperless, especially when combined with using cloud-based tools, is that it allows me to function in a method of what I call location independence.

In my mind, being location independent means that I can practice wherever I happen to be. When you have a paper file, server based software, and a desktop computer, that generally means that

Legal technology can be your friend, but not if you are using it incorrectly in your practice. This session teaches you the rights and wrongs for using technology, including email, passwords, public WiFi, backups, encryption and more!
I will be presenting on this topic for the Northwest Suburban Bar Association. The program will be on January 15, 2020 at noon at the NWSBA Center at the Third District Courthouse.
