DAVID JEROME:I guess I’ve always been one of those who doesn’t believe that I should be touting my own reputation. I’ve always believed that my reputation should speak for itself and its work product and that others should tell me of my reputation.

HOW MEDICATION ERRORS HAPPEN
It’s really no surprise that medication errors impact many nursing home residents in rural community facilities throughout downstate Illinois. Consider what one research study out of rural Pennsylvania discovered.
The Statistics Are Terrifying
First, the study found that the “average hospitalized patient will experience 1 medication error per day.”
Next, the study revealed that upwards of 30% of all patients discharged from hospitals have suffered at least one medication error.
Also, according to the same study, roughly 15% (1 in 7) Medicare patients experienced some form of negative consequence or adverse reaction during their hospitalization, which

In 1987, the federal government passed sweeping legislation aimed at protecting nursing home residents. According to Congressional findings, privately owned nursing homes were providing terribly inadequate care for seniors, often leading to abuse, neglect, and preventable deaths. As a response, Congress passed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA), which created oversight and a number of protective measures that would ultimately be delegated to the states. Today, states pass along the investigative responsibilities to volunteer ombudsman, many of whom lack training, support, and resources to fully survey abuse and neglect allegations.
Sadly, even in 2019, the majority of

Under the current Illinois Workers’ Compensation System, injured workers have a strict statute of limitations that prevents them from bringing claims after 2 years from the date of injury. There are exceptions for latent diseases that are caused by occupational exposures to hazardous materials. For instance, if an employee is exposed to lead poisoning, asbestos, or other substances that do not manifest for years, there are rules in place to extend the time for filing a claim.
However, no matter how terrible the injuries or the willfulness of the employer’s conduct, employees cannot sue their employers. They must go through

In 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that nationwide about 123,600 nursing home residents were sent to an emergency room within a 90-day period for injuries they sustained while residing in nursing homes. This staggering statistic reveals a serious problem with American nursing homes. According to the CDC report, an incredible 40 percent of those ER visits were completely preventable.
So, who pays for these nursing home mistakes? Well, in most cases, taxpayers end up footing the bill through Medicare payments. The New York Times did a report on this issue back in 2015, which
