Financial abuse of the elderly is an enormous problem all over the country.  The elderly are actually most often abused by their own family members.  However, professional scammers do exist and prey upon the elderly, with various tricks and schemes.   Great news is that the United States federal government is now getting involved in dealing with elder financial abuse.  Prosecutions are on the rise and hopefully this will deter abusers who prey on the elderly.  The U.S. Department of Justice has just opened a hotline, which can be called to report suspected financial elder abuse at ph. FRAUD-11 (833-372-8311).
