Accident News | Chicago, Illinois

Four people were hospitalized after a van crashed into a liquor store on Chicago’s West Side Thursday afternoon, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on the 200 block of North Pulaski Road near West Lake Street, close to the Pulaski CTA Green Line station in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police said a 54-year-old man driving a white Ford van was traveling eastbound on Lake Street when he collided with a car driven by a 33-year-old woman heading southbound on Pulaski Road. After striking the car, the van continued forward and crashed through the front windows of L & J Food and Liquor.

Three people who were inside the store at the time—a 63-year-old man, a 69-year-old man, and a 54-year-old woman—suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities said they were initially listed in good condition. The van driver was also injured and taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be in good condition as well.

Officials confirmed that multiple citations were issued to the van driver following the incident. The owner of the liquor store stated that none of the employees working at the time were hurt. Witnesses at the scene expressed shock over how the crash occurred, with some questioning how the driver ended up inside the building.

Police have not released additional details as the investigation into the crash continues.
