A deadly crash on Chicago’s South Side claimed the life of a 50-year-old man Wednesday morning, prompting an ongoing investigation by Chicago police. According to authorities, the collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. in the 9200 block of South Stony Island Avenue. Police said a black Cadillac traveling southbound struck a blue Mini Cooper at an intersection. After the impact, the Mini Cooper’s driver was pushed into a nearby business. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he later died.

The Cadillac’s driver, a 47-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital and is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported. Witnesses told ABC7 that the crash may have involved drag racing, claiming two vehicles were traveling at extremely high speeds before the collision. Chicago police have not yet confirmed drag racing as the cause and said the investigation is ongoing.
