Baker Sterchi Members Laura Beasley and John Mahon have earned recognition on Missouri Lawyers Media’s 2024 Top Defense Verdicts & Settlements for a complete defense verdict in a medical malpractice case in St. Louis County with a $3,146,000 jury request.
The Top Defense Verdicts & Settlements include jury- or judge-tried cases that resulted in a victory for the defense. Additionally, cases in which the plaintiffs’ award was far less than what was sought or was significantly reduced by comparative fault are included.
Beasley is a trial attorney with extensive experience in civil defense litigation. A past president of the Illinois Defense Counsel, she currently serves on its Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Beasley also holds board positions with the East St. Louis and St. Clair County Bar Associations and is a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys Executive Council, Class of 2027. She earned her law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is admitted to practice in Illinois and Missouri.
As a civil litigation defense attorney, Mahon has amassed jury trial and appellate victories in representing hospitals, emergency departments, ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers, emergency medical services providers, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. He serves as chair of the Baker Sterchi Healthcare Practice Group and has been a member of DRI’s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee for several years. An active contributor to the firm’s Healthcare Law Blog, Mahon is frequently sought out to educate healthcare providers on legal issues. He is licensed to practice in both Missouri and Illinois.
