Mundelein, IL (January 21, 2025) – A 24-year-old woman from Lemont lost her life in a major accident involving a semi-truck early Tuesday morning, January 21.

The crash occurred around 1:05 a.m. on U.S. 45 between Dunbar Road and Route 176. According to law enforcement, the woman was driving an Acura sedan southbound on Route 45 when she lost control of her vehicle. The sedan veered into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a semi-truck.

Emergency responders transported the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified her as Hannah Lebert. The driver of the semi, a 44-year-old man, was also injured in the crash. He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed at this time. U.S. 45 was temporarily closed in both directions as officials conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage. Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the collision.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Hannah Lebert. We also wish the injured driver a full recovery.

Fatal Accidents in Illinois

Illinois sees a significant number of fatal crashes each year, with Lake County being a frequent site for tragic collisions due to its heavily traveled roadways. In 2023 alone, the state reported more than 1,200 traffic fatalities, with head-on crashes being among the most devastating types of accidents.

Here are some key facts about fatal accidents in Illinois:

  • Head-On Collisions: These crashes often occur when one driver crosses the centerline or loses control, as in this case. The high impact of head-on collisions frequently results in severe injuries or fatalities.
  • Semi-Truck Involvement: Accidents involving semi-trucks are especially dangerous due to the size and weight of these vehicles. Collisions with passenger cars often lead to catastrophic damage.
  • Driver Behavior: Speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving are leading contributors to fatal accidents in Illinois. Losing control of a vehicle on major roadways is a common factor in such crashes.
  • Road Conditions: Weather, visibility, and other road conditions can also play a significant role in accidents, particularly on highways and rural roads.

Losing a loved one in a crash can be an overwhelming and life-altering experience. Families may face emotional and financial hardships as they navigate their loss. Seeking legal assistance can help families better understand their rights and options during such a difficult time.
