Fifteen years ago, I started Jayaram Law in my Chicago apartment, with nothing but love for the practice of law and the belief in a different kind of firm. I knew I wanted to work with visionaries and disruptors, and I knew that getting there would take a community of lawyers who believed in authenticity over conformism and problem-solving over naysaying.
Working from that one-bedroom apartment, it was impossible to imagine that Jayaram would grow to span nearly 40 teammates across the U.S. and two incredible studio spaces in Miami and New York. We’ve helped clients build their brands from concepts into global names, and artists take their work from small studios to major galleries and stages around the world.
Through it all, a few things have remained constant. One is a love for the artists and visionaries who help us understand and interpret our world – as it is and as it could be. Another is our belief in the power of culture and community, which has only grown as we’ve welcomed clients, friends and leaders across art, fashion, music, tech and more to gather in our new spaces.
You’ll see both of these themes repeated throughout this issue, which celebrates innovators in the visual arts, from curators to collectors to the artists themselves. “In Conversation” features discussions on collecting, art’s connection with wellness and the promises and perils of AI-generated work.
“Speaking Of” spotlights the artists we’ve been lucky enough to feature in our own Jayaram spaces, including Nicolau Vergueiro and Jaé Joseph – the masterminds behind the recent “Making a Living” installation in our Miami studio – and Ezequiel Pini (Six N. Five), whose one-of-a-kind work is on full-time display on our Artbox screen.
We hope you enjoy all of this, and much more. We’re grateful to all the clients and supporters who have joined us on this journey, and to the artists who make our world more vibrant through their creativity and inspiration. Here’s to the next 15 years of Jayaram Law!
