Chicago, IL (December 5, 2024) – Troopers with the Illinois State Police said two people are in custody after a multi-vehicle crash left several injured, including three children in River North, on Wednesday evening.

The crash happened around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue. Police said a 16-year-old male driver of a stolen 2015 white Jeep Cherokee was traveling southbound on Michigan Avenue when he failed to stop at a red light. The Jeep then hit a Dodge van in the intersection, then struck a Jeep Compass and a Honda SUV from the impact.

The 16-year-old driver of the Jeep fled the scene and was placed into custody a short time later. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. A female passenger in the Jeep was transported to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition and is also in custody.

A woman in the Dodge van was taken to Northwestern in fair condition along with a 6-year-old girl, who was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in fair condition, as well as two other children. However, no further details were released. An investigation is still ongoing, and law enforcement officials are handling it.
