Brooks Tarulis’ partner Elizabeth Bacon and her co-counsel Brandon Clark of Saul Ewing represented Kevin Jackson in a nine-year legal battle to vacate his wrongful conviction and win long overdue justice for Mr. Jackson. The First District of the Illinois Appellate court ruled on October 25, 2024, in favor of the groundbreaking exoneration of our client who served twenty-three years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of the 2001 murder and shooting of two Chicago men. At Elizabeth’s insistence a 2023-2024 reinvestigation of the case by specially appointed counsel to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office confirmed Mr. Jackson’s assertion of innocence, documented additional newly developed evidence further undermining his conviction, and identified questionable conduct and relationships between the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office leading to this travesty of justice. Elizabeth’s dedication and commitment to justice was previously recognized by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for her work to obtain proper medical care for Mr. Jackson and other incarcerated prisoners in Illinois. She epitomizes what all attorneys should aspire. Her skill, knowledge, dedication and judgment that brought freedom to Mr. Jackson is the same commitment she brings to all of her client’s at Brooks, Tarulis & Tibble, LLC, and we are proud to have her as our partner.
