Lake County, IL (October 7, 2024) – A 19-year-old Crown Point woman was killed when her vehicle was struck by a semi while turning on Saturday in unincorporated Cedar Creek Township. The woman sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the crash, according to a release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Around 11:45 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers were sent to West 181st Avenue and Harrison Street for a crash, a news release stated. The initial investigation indicated that the woman was traveling north on Harrison and was trying to turn west on 181st Avenue when she was struck by the semi, which was traveling east. There were two passengers in the back seat — aged 14 and 15 — and they were flown to Chicago hospitals with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the semi, who is 67, was not injured. The circumstances that led to the crash are being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Team. While officers requested witnesses to come forward, the incident is under further investigation by the Lake County County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police, and no additional details were provided in the meantime.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased woman. Our thoughts are extended to any injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.
