Wilmington, IL (September 16, 2024) – Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reported the death of Clay E. Russell, a 61-year-old Lincoln man who was pronounced deceased in a crash that took place on Sunday morning, September 15.
Russell lost his life during a crash while heading southbound along I-55 at mile marker 238.5 in Wilmington, Summers said. The Illinois State Police are still investigating the crash, which occurred around 3:15 a.m.
EMTs first transported Russell to a local medical center, where he was later pronounced dead; however, the total number of victims hurt remains unknown. Although no more information is currently available in the interim, the incident is being investigated by the ISP’s accident unit. Troopers also asked any witnesses with additional information to come forward.
