Baker Sterchi Member John Watt has been accepted into the National Bond Claims Association (NBCA), following thorough vetting by the Board of Directors and the support of two existing members.

Based in Kansas City, Watt defends businesses in multi-million-dollar litigation cases involving product liability, construction and toxic torts, and has extensive experience with surety and bond claims. Watt has served as a lead attorney in trials at both state and federal levels, conducted hundreds of expert witness depositions, and presented arguments before appellate courts in Missouri and Kansas. Additionally, he has represented clients in arbitration and mediation proceedings.

As a steering committee member of ALFA International’s Construction Practice Group, Watt co-chaired the 2022 and 2023 ALFA Construction Practice Group Seminars. He regularly contributes to the Missouri and Kansas sections of ALFA’s Construction Law Compendium and was named to Missouri Lawyers Media’s Construction POWER List in 2023. Watt is also recognized in the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for his Construction Law practice in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The NBCA, established in the 1970s, comprises claims representatives from bonding companies and legal professionals in the fidelity and surety bond industry. The organization fosters knowledge sharing and professional camaraderie among those in the bonding industry and is governed by a Board of Directors that includes twelve senior claims representatives from major U.S. bonding companies.
