Chicago, IL (September 10, 2024) – An 88-year-old Pekin man died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, according to a report from Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood released on Monday, September 9.

Russel Barnes Jr., 88, of Pekin, suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries to his chest and head that ultimately killed him after a two-vehicle crash in Peoria.

Barnes was involved in an accident at the intersection of East Elaine Avenue and North Knoxville Avenue in Peoria around 10:50 a.m. He was taken from the scene to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. Law enforcement officials are still investigating, however, and no further details were released.
