Gurnee, IL (August 13, 2024) – Police say a Grayslake woman died after she was involved in a crash with a semi-truck on Route 41 in Gurnee that left her trapped in her car on Tuesday morning, August 12.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road for a report of a serious traffic crash. Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said the incident involved a semi-truck and a Honda sedan.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Honda was traveling southbound on Route 41 in the left turn lane for northbound Delany Road when the accident took place. The Honda was struck by the semi-truck, which was traveling southbound, pushing the Honda through the intersection and into a pole.

The Gurnee Fire Department worked to extricate the driver of the Honda, a 63-year-old Grayslake woman, who was trapped inside the car, Gaylor said. She was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of her critical injuries but later died. However, local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman’s family. Our thoughts are extended to any injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their full recovery.
