Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago

Despite the fact that Chicago is one of the few genuinely walkable metropolises in the United States, pedestrians continue to face a number of dangers along its various streets and thoroughfares. Local authorities have estimated that the number of pedestrian fatalities in traffic collisions over the past year may have reached its highest level in half a century, based on preliminary data.

Unfortunately, nearly 200 pedestrians died in recent vehicle collisions, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year. And notably, 40% of fatal pedestrian collisions were caused by hit-and-runs. In comparison, 80% of severe and fatal pedestrian incidents transpired in Chicago alone, near an intersection of 125 feet or less. Of course, victims can and should obtain immediate legal counsel from a qualified Chicago car accident lawyer if they have lost a family member in a collision.
