Chicago, IL (July 16, 2024) – A driver died on Tuesday, July 16, after a semi-truck rolled over following a collision on Interstate 80 in Hazel Crest and fell onto the roadway below, Illinois State Police said.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:35 a.m. The truck was traveling eastbound when it was involved in a collision with at least one other car. It left the roadway, went down an embankment, and overturned onto Kedzie Avenue, police said.

At least one person was killed in the crash, though it’s unclear how many victims were taken to an area hospital with injuries, state police informed. All lanes on I-80 eastbound were shut down for several hours, though local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
