Bement, IL (July 7, 2024) – A Hammond man has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a fatal car crash that killed two people on Saturday in Piatt County.
Levi A. Tull, 23, was issued a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and running a stop sign, Illinois State Police Trooper Jayme Bufford said. Piatt County court records show he has not been formally charged about the fatal incident.
Illinois State Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash near County Road 900 North and County Road 1400 East around 5:57 p.m. Saturday. Preliminary information indicates that Tull, driving a Toyota Corolla, was traveling north on County Road 1400 East while a Ford Edge was traveling on County Road 900 North, Bufford said. Tull allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, entered an intersection, and struck the driver’s side of the other vehicle. Both vehicles left the roadway and overturned.
Tull was transported to an area hospital with injuries, Bufford said. Peyton Owen, 22, of Bement, a passenger in the Corolla, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kimberly Ogden, 50, of Monticello, the driver of the vehicle that was struck, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Illinois State Police are investigating the accident in the interim.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victims’ families.
