Oak Lawn, IL (June 23, 2024) – A woman was hit and injured overnight after a suspected drunk driver crashed into her house in Oak Lawn. Oak Lawn police were called to the scene just after midnight on Saturday after reports that a car had crashed into a home in the 5000 block of 99th Street.

The resident was taken to the hospital, where she remains in unknown condition. According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, a 49-year-old man, had allegedly run a stop sign in the area before crashing into the home. Officers say they suspected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol during the crash. He was arrested and taken to the hospital, where it was revealed that his blood alcohol level allegedly exceeded the legal limit. No further details were released, but an investigation remains active and ongoing in the meantime.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim in hopes of her full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago

Although Chicago is one of our country’s few truly walkable metropolises, pedestrians continue to encounter danger on its thoroughfares. Based on preliminary data, local authorities estimate that the number of pedestrian fatalities in traffic collisions over the past year may have peaked at its highest level in half a century.

A total of nearly 200 pedestrians died in recent vehicle collisions, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year. Moreover, at least 80% of severe and fatal pedestrian incidents took place in Chicago alone, in close proximity to an intersection of 125 feet or less. Of course, victims must obtain immediate legal counsel from a Chicago pedestrian accident attorney if they or a family member has been injured in a collision.
