Semi-Truck Collisions in Illinois

Recent data from the Illinois Department of Transportation revealed that tractor-trailers were involved in approximately 11,800 collisions, of which nearly 100 were fatal. According to statistics, big-rig accidents involving large trucks have a higher fatality rate than collisions involving conventional passenger vehicles.

Determining the cause is the initial stage in identifying potential faults for these crashes, which could involve multiple parties. Investigators might consult evidence such as the vehicle’s black box or the driver’s cell phone records to ascertain the various factors leading to a truck accident in Illinois. Frequent causes of these semi-truck collisions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Truck driver carelessness or error
  • Violations of commercial transportation regulations
  • Loading or securing cargo improperly
  • Equipment malfunction
