Macon County, IL (May 17, 2024) – A crash on Friday morning in Macon County left four dead, including two children.

According to an online report, the crash happened just before 9:15 a.m. on U.S. Highway 36 in Macon. Per the report, an 85-year-old woman was traveling south when she failed to yield, crashing into a car driven by a 56-year-old woman from Hannibal, who was driving east. The first driver’s vehicle then collided with a westbound semi driven by a 48-year-old man from Wood River.

A 30-year-old woman, a four-year-old girl, and a seven-year-old boy were traveling with the second driver from Hannibal, and all occupants of that vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. An accident reconstructionist from the Illinois State Police assisted the investigation, though officers released no further details about the incident. No other injuries were reported. However, witnesses were also asked to step forward if they had additional information.
