Chicago, IL (May 8, 2024) – A vehicle and a dump truck were involved in a crash that took place in the Wauconda area on Wednesday morning, leaving two dead and one gravely injured.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to the scene at around 8:00 a.m. when a 2007 Nissan Versa and a dump truck crashed, seriously damaging both cars. Based on preliminary findings, a 44-year-old man from Round Lake Park was operating a 2007 Mack dump on Chardon Road northbound from Fairfield Road. The Versa, driven by a 48-year-old Waukegan woman, was nearing Fairfield Road while traveling west on Chardon Road when the two collided for unknown reasons.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, as well as a passenger who was riding in the Versa’s backseat, identified only as a 55-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach who was also declared deceased at the spot. A 45-year-old passenger riding in the front seat was transferred to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the dump truck driver was unharmed. However, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and has not provided further details.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased victims’ families. Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones.
