Chicago, IL (May 16, 2024) – On Wednesday night, a hit-and-run accident on the city’s Near West Side claimed the life of a man. The incident took place on the 1300 block of South Halsted Street at around 7:15 p.m. The victim, according to Chicago police, was hit by a car that fled the scene of the accident.
The man was crossing the street when he was hit by the back tires of a plain white van without any markings, per the witness report of a worker at a neighboring shop. The witness said that other employees also saw the incident and ran outside to assist.
The man was transferred to Stroger Hospital and declared deceased. The Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as 44-year-old Karl Hall. Detectives with the Chicago Police Department are handling the investigation in the meantime and have not released any additional details.
