Chicago, IL (April 25, 2024) – One person died from injuries in a two-vehicle crash that occurred in the Wheeling area late Wednesday, authorities said.

Local officials report that the crash happened at about 10:20 p.m. when two vehicles traveling along Lake-Cook Road near Northgate Parkway collided in a head-on accident. According to the Wheeling Fire Department, both SUVs were badly damaged, trapping the drivers.

Firefighters freed the motorists, who then were taken to Endeavor Health Glenbrook Hospital. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 25-year-old Buffalo Grove woman, was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities haven’t released the woman’s name, pending notification of her family, police said. The other driver is a 30-year-old Wheeling man who was taken to the hospital as a precaution and was expected to survive, police said. The crash was under investigation Thursday, though no additional details have been released.
