Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago
Despite the fact that Chicago is one of the few truly walkable metropolises in our country, pedestrians continue to encounter danger on its thoroughfares. Local authorities estimate that the number of pedestrian fatalities in traffic collisions over the past year may have peaked at its highest level in half a century, based on preliminary data.
A total of nearly 200 pedestrians died in recent vehicle collisions, representing an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year. Notably, 40% of fatal pedestrian collisions were caused by hit-and-runs. In comparison, 80% of severe and fatal pedestrian incidents transpired in Chicago alone, in close proximity to an intersection of 125 feet or less. Of course, victims must obtain immediate legal counsel from a Chicago pedestrian accident attorney if they or a member of their family has been injured in a collision.
