Ana Obregón, 68, welcomed a baby via surrogate using her late son’s sperm. How? Experts explain.

Estate planningSpanish actress, 68-year-old Ana Obregón, is best known in the United States for starring in films like Bolero, Car Crash, and Mystery on Monster Island, in addition to guest roles on General Hospital and Who’s The Boss. She made headlines last month after she welcomed a child via surrogate after it was revealed that the child was actually Obregón’s grandchild.

When Obregón’s son, Aless Lequio Garcia, was diagnosed with cancer, he expressed his final wish was to leave behind a descendant and opted to freeze his sperm before receiving chemotherapy treatment. Because surrogacy is illegal in Spain, Obregón traveled to the United States to use her son’s sperm and donor egg to conceive the child legally. The road to welcoming her granddaughter into the world was turbulent, but she’s delighted she’s here.
