Son collected dead father’s funds as body decomposed for years, officials say

ArielleRandall Freer, 63, passed away unexpectedly this summer in Jackson, CA. However, his death was not the only unexpected event to occur.

When the sheriff’s deputy arrived to notify his next-of-kin, another body was discovered. This body was later identified as Ada Clinton Freer, Randall’s father. The elder Freer is believed to have been sitting in a recliner in Randall’s living room for more than three years due to the level of decomposition.

There were no signs of foul play leading Calaveras County Coroner to determine the cause and manner of death to be natural causes. It is believed that Randall had assumed his father’s identity to continue to collect Social Security and retirement benefits, however, the investigation is ongoing.

At this time, a nephew of the elder Freer was contacted to take over the estate.
