Jeanette Carpenter found out last tax season that her social security number belongs to a deceased person, according to the IRS. After receiving the unusual notice after filing her 2020 taxes, she attempted to file two additional times to no avail.
Carpenter has obtained a letter from the the Social Security Administration confirming her status as alive, but the IRS continues to reject taxes due to believing she is deceased. The New Jersey resident has raised this issue with the IRS and is still waiting to hear back, leaving her in limbo with her 2021 taxes as well.
