The phrase allocation of parenting time and responsibility has replaced the terms custody and visitation since the modification to Illinois child custody law in 2016. The purpose of the change was to represent parenting time and responsibility as a spectrum, rather than a one-dimensional term. Now, parenting time and decision-making privileges have nothing to do with which person is the custodial or non-custodial parent.
