Mauck & Baker is pleased to announce the addition of a new associate attorney to our firm: Terry Lu.
Terry was born in Chicago and received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006. Following graduation, Terry moved to West Lafayette, IN, where he helped to establish a new Christian church. He also volunteered at a local homeless shelter, worked on projects with Habitat for Humanity, and provided tutoring services to adult learners interested in earning GEDs. Upon returning to Chicago, Terry lived within two intentional Christian communities: one in Evanston and another in Rogers Park.
Terry returned to Champaign, IL, for law school. He graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2013. Terry was a production editor on the Journal of Law, Technology & Policy and a member of the Illinois Innocence Project. He earned a pro bono notation in recognition for legal work performed as a law student. Terry began his career as a lawyer at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General in the General Law Bureau. While in this role, he took seven federal civil jury trials to verdict, all of which were in favor of his clients.
Prior to joining Mauck & Baker, Terry’s professional practice was primarily focused on litigation, but he is motivated to expand into other practice areas to better serve the best interests of his clients. What drew him to Mauck & Baker is the firm’s dedication to serving the Lord. Terry is especially interested in openly combining his faith with professional work.
“After practicing for nearly five years as an attorney, I am just now beginning to explore the question of what it potentially looks like to integrate my faith with my profession. My faith represents a huge part of my identity. My profession represents a huge part of my time and energies. It is important to figure out when and how the two should intersect,” he said. “At Mauck & Baker, I am excited about working with churches and non-profits, energized by the way prayer is valued and exercised within the firm, and impressed by the faithfulness demonstrated via the hosting of weekly Bible studies.”
Terry is currently helping to establish a new Christian church in Uptown. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors and playing European-style board games.
As a passionate follower of Jesus with a desire to defend religious freedom, Mauck & Baker is proud to have him on the team.
