David N. Dailey 1947-2010

David N. Dailey passed away in late June at his home in Moline.

Mr. Dailey graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He practiced law for 37 years, from 1973 until his death.

John Holmstrom Jr. passes away

Former ISBA Board of Governors member John Holmstrom Jr. passed away on Tuesday, July 20. Mr. Holmstrom was a a partner at Holmstrom & Kennedy Law Firm in Rockford, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.

Mr. Holmstrom played a key role in the Japanese surrender in the war, encoding the message to the Department of War of the exact time that the surrender was confirmed.

The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Brendan A. Maher as Circuit Judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit, Third Subcircuit, Judgeship A. This appointment is effective Aug. 2, 2010 and terminates on Dec. 3, 2012.

YLD presents $5,000 grant to CASA Winnebago

YLD Council member Adela Lucchesi presents a $5,000 check to Fran Rossate of Winnebago CASA.

ISBA Young Lawyers Division Council member Adela Lucchesi presents a $5,000 check to Winnebago County CASA Board Chairperson Fran Rossate. The grant will support the Recruitment/Training Coordinator to continue to recruit and train additional advocates to respond to the stated need of the Juvenile Court Judge in Winnebago County.

The YLD Council started – beginning last year with ISBA Past President Jack Carey - giving a grant in honor of the current ISBA President. This grant is in honor of John O’Brien.
